It is unfortunate that pet adoption rescue services need to take place daily in this country. It’s a tragic commentary on how we treat pets. Animals of every stripe are neglected, abused and even discarded as if they have no feelings of suffering and pain associated with loss of care.

The reality is that most abandoned animals left on the street will find their way to an animal shelter and end up being put to death because no one wants to adopt them. Each day across the United States, in every city, this tragedy occurs again and again.

Pet rescue is such an overwhelming need because more pets are born each year in this country than there are loving homes to take care of them. If more dog and cat owners would spay and neuter their animals in a responsible way, there would many fewer unwanted animals leading to overpopulation.

Countless unnamed individuals along with the Humane Society are tirelessly hard at work attempting to find homes for as many pets as they can, before they are eventually euthanized. Most pet adoption agencies, which are made up of volunteers, provide dignified care to cats, dogs and other pets by the individuals who give of their precious time.

Those professionals in the field of pet rescue recommend that individuals not buy their pets from pet stores. Pet store animals often come from the colloquial for profit puppy mill type of setting. Often puppy mills cage their cats, dogs and other animals in atrocious, squalid conditions that are generally inhumane.

Professionals in pet adoption rescue insist that buying pets from local pet stores simply reinforces the cycle of notorious mistreatment that exists in puppy mills. Alternatively, they suggest you can help end animal abuse by purchasing your next pet from your local SPCA or pet adoption center where there are many great pets in need of a home.

In an ideal world, all pets that are born would receive a loving, caring home. In reality, many pets are treated simply as a commodity and are abused and neglected by their breeders. It is really sad to see animals treated inhumanely because we, as a people, should honor the dignity of every living creature on this earth.

If you want to be part of the solution that reduces the need for pet adoption rescues in this country, first adopt a pet from a local pound or pet shelter. Next, make sure that your dog or cat is spayed or neutered so that there are no unwanted pregnancies. Finally, treat your pet with all the love you have so that it enjoys its short life here on this earth.
